New York State's Office of Cannabis Management Launches “Listen & Learn” Series for Youth Education
The New York State Office of Cannabis Management (OCM) is taking significant strides in youth cannabis education with its innovative “Listen & Learn” series. This initiative runs from May to August 2025, aiming to foster open and stigma-free discussions about cannabis use, health, and access to information.
Engaging Youth and Trusted Adults
The “Listen & Learn” series invites young people and their trusted adults, such as parents and mentors, to participate in community-based listening sessions. These sessions are designed to create a safe space for discussions, allowing youths to share their perceptions, questions, and concerns regarding cannabis.
Hosted in partnership with local youth-serving organizations, the program emphasizes the importance of hearing from the youth themselves. Their feedback is crucial in developing educational resources that are culturally relevant and age-appropriate, addressing the unique needs of different communities.
A Commitment to Honest Education
Felicia A.B. Reid, the Acting Executive Director of OCM, highlights the importance of transparent education: “Young people need access to honest, accessible cannabis information—not just warnings.” This initiative strives to involve parents, caregivers, mentors, and educators, fostering a collaborative approach to supporting youth in making informed decisions regarding cannabis use.
Shaping Future Campaigns
The insights gathered from these listening sessions will play a vital role in shaping OCM’s future public education campaigns. By ensuring that educational materials resonate with the concerns and realities of local communities, the initiative aligns with New York State’s commitment to creating evidence-based tools that promote informed and healthy choices around cannabis.
